Good Design Framework

A practical guide to retail environments that perform commercially, endure physically and connect with people.

Retail design at its best works on several levels at once. What makes a store trade well, last longer and build genuine affinity with customers is never the result of aesthetics alone.

Drawing on projects across our portfolio and the strongest examples of store design globally, QIC’s Retail Design and Delivery team has produced the Good Design Framework: a toolkit for retailers, designers and shopfitters planning their next project.

Underpinning it is the straightforward proposition that good design and sustainable design are the same. Materials that last, layouts that adapt and fitouts designed with their second life in mind are also the decisions that reduce operating costs and extend the commercial life of a store.

Framework principles

The framework is organised around four principles that carry through the full design journey, from early concept to end-of-lease.

What's inside:

  • Quick guides to material selection and specification
  • Category-specific opportunities, from apparel to food and beverage
  • The business case for design decisions that lower operating costs and extend fitout life
  • Guidance across the full project lifecycle, including end-of-lease and reuse
  • Practical checklists for design and construction teams
