About the tender
Central Queensland is a key region for the state's energy system, hosting the largest concentration of coal-fired generation capacity and industrial load across the State. Its position within the network supports power flows both north and south, as well as directly into Gladstone, a key industrial hub.
QIC completed market sounding ahead of the Central Queensland Gas Power Tender for up to 400MW of new gas-fired generation capacity to be operational by 2032.
A competitive tender process is expected to be awarded by the end of 2026.
