Queensland livestock genetics company Nbryo has secured up to A$2 million from the Queensland Government's Sowing the Seeds of Farming Innovation Fund, managed by QIC, taking the company's seed funding round to A$20 million.

The investment is the inaugural commitment from the $30 million Fund and follows QIC Ventures' initial investment in Nbryo in 2025.

The Fund is investing alongside existing investors including the Gates Foundation, AgriZero and Tenacious Ventures, highlighting Queensland's ability to attract leading global and specialist agricultural investors.

QIC Ventures Vice President Hayden Wall said the follow-on investment reflected the significant progress Nbryo had made over the past year and the confidence of a high-quality investor syndicate in the company's commercial trajectory.

When QIC first invested in Nbryo, we saw the potential for its technology to fundamentally improve access to advanced livestock genetics

“Over the past 12 months, Nbryo has successfully commercialised its embryo multiplication technology, established a growing base of paying customers and built commercial relationships with leading Australian beef producers.

"That execution has positioned the business for its next phase of growth and attracted the continued support of a high-calibre investor syndicate. The participation of the Gates Foundation alongside AgriZero and Tenacious Ventures reflects both the strength of Nbryo's technology and the global relevance of the innovation being developed here in Queensland."

As the inaugural investment from the Sowing the Seeds of Farming Innovation Fund, Nbryo demonstrates the Fund's role in partnering with experienced private investors to help Queensland companies accelerate commercialisation of innovations that strengthen the productivity and global competitiveness of the state's primary industries.

Nbryo CEO Paul Niven said the investment would support the company’s next phase of growth.

Queensland has an incredible opportunity to lead the world in agricultural technology innovation. We're proud to showcase the work being undertaken at Nbryo and the role advanced reproductive technologies can play in helping make better herds faster

“Translating scientific innovation into practical outcomes for farmers is at the core of our mission. Every improvement in reproductive efficiency has the potential to deliver significant benefits for producers, the supply chain and the broader agricultural sector."

The Sowing the Seeds of Farming Innovation Fund makes equity investments across multiple stages of business growth and is designed to help Australian innovations move beyond pilot projects into commercially scalable enterprises that deliver benefits across the Queensland agricultural value chain.
