In the second half of 2008, the extreme volatility in global financial markets meant daily movements of 5% to 8% in sharemarkets and currencies were common. In this paper, we explore how portfolio rebalancing can help manage the risk of sub-optimal fund performance in volatile markets, and the range of factors that should be considered when designing a rebalancing program.
